Sensei Roger began practising Yoshinkan Aikido in 1971 under the tuition of David Eayrs, founder of Ken Shin Kai and a founder member of the British Aikido Board. Over the years Sensei Roger has accumulated an extensive knowledge of Yoshinkan and various other styles of Aikido, receiving additional tuition from Terada Shihan – 9th Dan, Francis Ramasamy – 6th Dan, Thamby Rajah Sensei, Sensei Ted Stratton, Eun Jang Yu Sensei and Sensei Garry Masters.

Sensei Roger first started training at the Denmead Dojo in Hampshire after watching a demonstration given by Sensei Yu and Sensei Eayrs. He has given many Aikido demonstrations, including displays for the Malaysian Sports Minister, Japanese Consul, Terada Shihan, Lord Mayor and regional television.

Sensei Roger has travelled to Penang, Malaysia four times in order to extend his knowledge of Yoshinkan Aikido in extensive Aikido training courses, taught by Shihan Francis Ramasamy and Sensei Sonny Loke.

Sensei Roger was the Branch Chief Instructor for West Sussex and is now the Branch Chief Instructor for Hampshire. Sensei Roger is a member of the Executive Committee and was elected as Chairman for Hampshire and Vice Chairman for Ken Shin Kai, which consists of over 300 members in dojos located across England.

In his time as Chairman, Sensei Roger has assisted in obtaining International recognition for Ken Shin Kai by assisting Sensei Garry with establishing it as an Independant Yoshinkan Aikido Organisation, recognised by the International Yoshinkan Aikido Federation (IYAF), the headquarters for Yoshinkan Aikido based in Japan. Sensei Roger has also taught as guest instructor at many seminars hosted by other UK Aikido organizations.

Sensei Roger is currently holding the Internationally recognised and authenticated rank of 5th Dan Instructor in Yoshinkan Aikido. Sensei Roger received his 1st Dan from Eun Jang Yu Sensei in 1977. Sensei Roger received his 5th Dan from Japan after being graded by Terada Shihan - 9th Dan Yoshinkan Aikido Instructor. The grading was held in the UK on 15th April 2002, at an International Yoshinkan Aikido Seminar hosted by Ken Shin Kai. The Seminar was attended by many high ranking Yoshinkan Aikidoka and taught by Terada Shihan, who is currently the highest ranked Yoshinkan Aikido Instructor in the world and Chief Consultant to the IYAF.
